In the ancient times the area surrounding the city of Bhopal and Bhopal itself was a major centre of Buddhism as Lord Buddha visited the nearby areas frequently and King Ashoka a disciple of Lord Buddha ruled the area thus many stupas were built in the area one such monument is “Sanchi Stupa” a UNESCO Heritage site located in the outskirts of Bhopal.

Day 1 :

  • The travellers will be pickup up either from Raja Bhoj Airport, Bhopal or their residence within the city limits of Bhopal.
  • In Bhopal, we will have breakfast before heading to Sanchi.
  • It takes one and a half hours to drive from Bhopal to this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Sanchi Stupa:One of the earliest stupas in India, it was built by Ashoka in the third century. The building’s architectural features, which include a three-umbrella structure symbolising the Buddha, the dharma (doctrine), and the sangha (community), as well as carvings of the Buddha’s life events, Jataka stories (about the Buddha’s previous lives), early Buddhist scenes, and auspicious symbols, make it a popular destination for Buddhists and those who enjoy architecture and history.
  • After a leisurely visit to Stupa, we will have lunch and further drive to Udayagiri Caves.
  • A 20 min drive later the caravan will reach 5th century caves.
  • Udayagiri Caves: These caves are a group of Jain and Hindu temples and monasteries. All are crafted out by cutting hills. Cave no 5 is called Varaha Cave and depicts Vishnu as “Varaha” a boar.
  • By the end of evening you will be dropped back at your hotel/residence or Airport within the city.
