Overview

Although Buddhism has been practiced for many years, its popularity in India peaked after prince Siddharth Gautam attained enlightenment in Bodhgaya 2600 years ago.  Since then, other locations in the city have grown to serve as national Buddhist centers. These have a vast geographic distribution, extending from the North to West India. During this tour, we will visit some of these destinations Bodhgaya, Nalanda, and Rajgir. If you want to take a more comprehensive tour or for a longer duration, check out our other Buddhist tour packages to India.

Day 2 :
Bodhgaya

  • The day will be spent exploring other vital sites in Bodhgaya, the city where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment.

Early in the morning, we’ll go to the Mahabodhi Temple.

Temple of Mahabodhi: The Mahabodhi Temple complex has the Mahabodhi tree, which is said to be where Buddha acquired enlightenment. It is said that Buddha pondered here in a number of places for weeks. There are various notable architectural and religious sites located within this complex, which is listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site.

  • Other sites on the day’s itinerary are:

The Great Buddha Statue: The 80-foot-tall statue of Buddha sitting cross-legged on a lotus in meditation is known as The Great Buddha.

Royal Bhutan Monastery: This monastery was constructed by the King of Bhutan as a tribute to Lord Buddha. The vibrant colour scheme, a 7ft gold Buddha statue and splendid clay carving depicting Buddha’s life attract thousands of tourists every year.

Tibetan Monastery – This oldest monastery of Bodhgaya houses an image of Maitreya Buddha, whom monks say to be the next Buddha. The temple also has a Dharma Chakra. It is said that anyone who can spin the wheel three times from left to right is absolved of all of his sins.

  • After this long day of exploration, return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • After an early breakfast at the hotel, we will drive toward Rajgir.
  • A two-hour drive later, we will reach the ancient capital of Magadha.

Rajgir: Both Jainism and Buddhism place a high value on this city. In the course of his life, the city was one of those places where Lord Buddha preached frequently.

This city tour stops at the following locations:

The Peace Pagoda, or Vishwa Shanti Stupa At the peak of Ratnagiri Hill, there lies a stupa built of white marble. Another name for the location is Gridhkuta (Vulture’s Peak).

For access to the hill, a ropeway will be used.

Vulture’s Peak: Every year, for three months during the rainy season, Lord Buddha conducted teachings there.

  • We shall head in the direction of Nalanda by late afternoon.

Between the third through the thirteenth centuries, it was a residential monastic university. Numerous stupas, shrines, residences, and educational facilities may be found at the location. Stucco, stone, and metal are the primary materials used in the artwork at the location.
