Overview

Around 2600 years ago in a small village in India Siddharth Gautam became Lord Gautam Buddha after attaining enlightenment. The place is now a hustling bustling city Bodhgaya. During the Bodhgaya tour, you will witness the Mahabodhi Tree, under which Lord Buddha meditated.

Over the years various Buddhist countries have established architecturally and culturally rich monasteries in the city including Royal Bhutan Monastery, Thai Monastery and Tibetan Monastery. In a one-day tour of Bodhgaya, all of these sites will be covered.

Day 1 :

Bodhgaya Arrival and Sightseeing

We will pick you up from your residence in the city or Gaya International Airport.
The tour will start with a scrumptious breakfast.
Afterwards, our guide will take you through the holy city.
These are the places we will visit during this day tour, travelers are free to add or subtract some attractions if they wish to.
Mahabodhi Temple – Ashoka first built this temple in the third century, and it was later rebuilt in the fifth or sixth century. As the site of Buddha’s awakening, the temple complex is of utmost significance.The temple complex consists of a 50 m high temple, a Mahabodhi tree and 6 other sacred sites.
Great Buddha Statue – Instated by Dalai Lama in 1989, the statue is 80-ft tall and showcases Buddha in a meditation pose sitting on a lotus.
Thai Monastery – Established in 1956 by Thailand, the monastery is a perfect spot to find some solace in this busy city. The roofs of the monastery gilded with gold tiles along with other features make it one of the exquisite places to visit on a Bodhgaya Tour. TThe monastery is home to India’s sole Thai temple.
Pro Tip: If you travel during the Tibetan pilgrimage season you can enjoy many joints offering authentic Tibetan food.
Royal Bhutan Monastery -This monastery, which is extremely close to the Thai monastery, was built by the King of Bhutan as a memorial to Lord Buddha. Because of its vivid colour scheme, a 7-foot-tall gold Buddha statue, and magnificent architecture, it is a well-liked tourist destination. People who practise Buddhism travel from all over the world to this monastery to see the clay carvings of the Buddha’s life.
Tibetan Monastery – It is Bodhgaya’s oldest monastery and dates back to 1938. Many Buddhist adherents are drawn to this temple by an image of Maitreya Buddha, who according to monks is the next Buddha. The Dharma Chakra is another feature of the temple. It is said that anyone who can spin the wheel three times from left to right is absolved of all sins.

Vishnupad Temple: This temple, which sits on the banks of the Falgu River, is significant in Hindu mythology. The temple contains a noticeable footstep mark that is thought to have been made while Lord Vishnu was dispatching the demon Gayanasura to Patal lok, hence the name “Vishnupad,” which means the foot of Vishnu.
