Welcome to India. One of the most essential and revered Buddhist pilgrimage sites on the entire globe is Bodhgaya. Gautama Buddha obtained enlightenment and became the Buddha in this location, beneath the Bodhi tree, a banyan tree. Buddha started his quest to disseminate the gospel of peace and nirvana from Bodhgaya. The most significant pilgrimage for all Buddhist sects worldwide is Bodh Gaya.
This morning after breakfast, a whole day is scheduled to explore Bodhgaya. Get ready to explore the Mahabodhi temple. It is said, King Ashoka built it after 250 years of Buddha's enlightenment. The temple was re-built in the 7th century. The Buddha tree is the main attraction of the temple. Lord Buddha has spent a week under the tree after attaining enlightenment. After Bodhgaya local sightseeing, head back to the hotel for dinner and rest.
This morning we will leave for Patna via Rajgir and Nalanda, founded in the 5th century BC. C. Nalanda and Rajgir are other essential destinations in Buddha's trail. Nalanda is an ancient city in India. Lord Buddha used to visit the place several times. The city is also famous for Nalanda university, founded in the 5th century. After the university, head towards the monastery housing the treasure found during the excavations at Nalanda and Rajgir.
Continue your journey to Rajgir, the capital of the Magadha kings. Buddha also visited these places a few times, looking for peace in the Jivkamaravana monastery. It is the monastery where his teachings were written for the first time.
The Buddhism pilgrimage tour includes exploring Venture peak, where Buddha set his second wheel of law in motion. The mountain is also home to a vast modern stupa, the Shanti stupa, built by Japan's Buddhist sangha. Finally, proceed to Patna and check in at the hotel to spend the night.
This morning, after breakfast, proceed to an important place on the Buddhism pilgrimage tour called Vaishali, where the Lord Buddha preached his last sermon and took nirvana. On day 7th of the Buddhism pilgrimage tour, after breakfast, check out of the accommodation and go to the Ramabhar Stupa and Mahaparinirvana Temple. Then travel to Lumbini by land (160 kms/4 hrs.). Tourists visit Lumbini, where the Lord Buddha was born. Visit the pillar erected by Emperor Ashok in the year 21 after his coronation at his birthplace. Proceed to Balrampur (137 kms/3 hrs.). We will schedule an overnight stay at a hotel in Balrampur.
After breakfast, we will leave Balrampur for Lucknow. We will visit the Sravasti (Sachet-Mahet) capital of the ancient Kosala kingdom, an active centre for Buddhism. The evening will be scheduled in Lucknow.
This morning after breakfast, check out at a hotel, transfer to Lucknow airport, and fly to New Delhi airport. Once you arrive at Delhi airport, transfer to the hotel and check-in. Rest of the day at leisure, half-day sightseeing tour of Old and New Delhi, visiting the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Qutab Minar and the Secretariat buildings. The evening will be scheduled in Delhi.
